Cow 621 is a 75% Registered South Poll Cow. She sells with her Pureblood Registered South Poll Heifer Calf 2274.
621 is 5 years, 9 months old (DOB 06-26-2016). Calf 2274 is one month old (DOB 03-17-2022). We weighed the pair on our ranch scale on 4/16/2022. 621 Weighed 858 lbs and 2274 weighed 120 lbs. 2274 had a birthweight of 69 lbs.
621 had too much milk when 2274 was born for the calf to keep up with and she didn't nurse one teat. 621 started to get mastitus. We brought the pair in, milked her out for several days and gave her antibiotics to make sure she didn't lose that quarter. You can see in the picture that the one teat is still enlarged. After I took this picture, we brough her in, weighed her, and milked that quarter out. It is a functioning quarter and she appears to have no pain associated with it as she never kicked or fussed while JR milked it out. I also saw the calf nursing from it in the pasture. The cow did not fuss at the calf either.
2274's sire is currently unknown. We multisire our pastures with Registered South Poll bulls. After the calf is born, we then submit it's DNA for testing to determine the sire. This process can take a few months to get the result back and as the calf is just now turning one month old, we simply don't have the results back. The calf has been registered as "multi-sire." Once we get the sire information, it will be based along to the buyer. Regardless, of the sire determined, the heifer calf will be a Purebred South Poll.
Both 621 and 2274 have been tested for BVD PI and are negative. 2274 has received no vaccinations so far.
